Let's get this Mardi Gras party started!

But before you do, do you really know what's you're celebrating? Mardi Gras can be traced to New Orleans. French-Canadian explorer, Jean Baptiste Le Moyne, landed on a plot of land south of New Orleans and called it Pointe due Mardi Gras. The first ever Mardi Gras was celebrated in 1703 in Fort Louis de la Mobile. Le Moyne established New Orleans in 1718 and by 1730, Mardi Gras was being celebrated openly. The King of Carnival was invented in 1872, along with the Mardi Gras colors, the song, and the flag. In 1875 Governor Warmoth of Louisiana signed the "Mardi Gras Act", making it a legal holiday in Louisiana. In the midst of all the festivities, please be sure to thank Sir Le Moyne for introducing what is one of the most colorful ethnic celebrations known to the world.
