Microsoft Buys Skype

The Department of Justice approved the $8.5 billion acquisition of Skype by Microsoft. Skype will be a Microsoft division headed by Skype CEO Tony Bates and its services will be combined with other programs such as Lync, Outlook, and Xbox Live. Although Skype was bought by Ebay after its first 2 years, and then by a group of private investors 4 years later, the amount by Microsoft supersedes all other transactions. What does this mean for Skype users? Will Microsoft make changes to the program that will affect current users? How will Microsoft incorporate Skype into their company? Would customers now be expected to pay for the once free services? Whatever Microsoft plans to accomplish with Skype seems to be the question everyone is asking.
