AT&T is set to reduce the amount of unlimited data its customers can use. Starting October 1st, AT&T will be reducing the data speed of smartphone users once their billing cycle indicates that they have ranked among the top 5% of the heaviest data users. Customers will still have unlimited data, but their speed will be slower so they don't congest the network. The company suggests using the Wi-Fi option so there will be no additional traffic on the data network. This change will be sure to upset smartphone users, even if they don't use excessive data simply because AT&T's change contradicts with the unlimited data plan currently offered. How will the change affect the AT&T merger with T-Mobile next year?
